The Cultural Department offers a range of activities that will allow children to express their creativity in one way or another. We encourage children to explore the arts and develop an appreciation for these disciplines.

Art Club

Art Club is the perfect place for budding artists to hone their skills!
The purpose of this group is to allow students to extend themselves in a purpose-built environment whilst surrounded by students of a like interest. Special materials and media are purchased specifically for the use of Art Club members. Club members are able to follow their own artistic desires while being assisted and guided by a qualified teacher.
There is a levy of R150 per term. This covers the cost of materials.

Students who are new to Chelsea will be given an opportunity to audition for the choir at the start of the year. The choir will perform with the band at various functions throughout the year.

This is a “not to be missed” activity! Students participate in a variety of activities such as beading, card making and paper mache, to name a few. Creative fun for everyone!

Wednesday afternoons 2:15 – 3:15 pm
During Drama Club students participate in a variety of activities and drama games to improve confidence, imagination, the use of movement and voice. Students work in groups, as well as develop individually in a relaxed environment. Students are invited to attend either a Tuesday or Wednesday, but not both.

Guitar Ensemble
Beginner Guitar Wednesday afternoons 2:00 – 2:30 pm
The beginner group is open to anyone who would like to learn to play the guitar. It is advisable that students commit for at least a full year in order to benefit properly from the lessons.
Space is limited.
Intermediate Guitar Wednesday afternoons 2:30 – 3:00 pm
Students who have made sufficient progress or have some music training may join the intermediate group. It is advisable that students commit for the year in order to benefit from the lessons. Space is limited.

EarlyAct
Tuesday afternoons 2:00 – 3:00 pm Starfish
Wednesday afternoons 2:00 – 4:00 pm St Thomas’s Children’s Home
EarlyAct is linked to the Rotary Club of Durban North. The group is mainly comprised of Grade 7 leaders, but does sometimes involve learners from younger grades. The team has visited Milldene to hand out Valentines's Day cards and cupcakes, raised funds at a Tea Garden and has been involved in collections for the Toy Story Campaign.
EarlyAct aims to involve the children in giving back to the community through these and other activities.
